uHoo Virus Index Calculator
The uHoo Virus Index, included in the app, is a tool for real-time assessment of virus survival (such as COVID-19 and flu) based on air quality. It is based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple air quality factors - temperature, relative humidity, particulate matter of varying sizes, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon dioxide.
The uHoo Virus Index works on a 10-point system, and subcategorized into four levels: Good, Mild, Bad and Severe. Each level provides insights about your air quality, risk of virus surviving and how to improve the environment to reduce risk.
1 - 3 (Good) | Virus survival is low and airborne virus spread is unlikely. |
4 to 6 (Mild) | Virus survival is moderate and airborne virus spread is possible but air quality poses little to almost no direct health risk for people who are usually not sensitive to air pollution. Sensitive people may experience health effects. More attention to air quality should be given and actions to improve air quality is recommended. |
7 to 8 (Bad) | Virus survival is prolonged and airborne virus spread is likely. Air quality poses some health risk. Critical assessment of your air quality is necessary and actions to improve air quality is required. |
9 to 10 (Severe) | Virus survival is high and airborne virus spread is likely. Air quality would affect most people and actions to improve air quality is necessary. |
Important things to know about this tool:
This tool is designed to help you gain insights on the various factors to consider about how the coronavirus and other types of pathogens survive and get transmitted through the air. It is not meant to provide exact estimates of absolute risk and should only be used as a reference to gain better understanding of indoor air quality and its relation to virus transmission.
Ideal ranges for the air quality factors are based on guidelines set by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The uHoo Virus Risk calculator is in no way intended to supersede or contradict guidance from government, health organizations and other health and medical authorities. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of the guidance in this tool and assume no responsibility for any injury or damage to persons or property arising out of or related to any use of the calculator or for any errors or omissions
